In the incestuous world of underground hardcore, Rodel rec stands as a veritable mercenary of noise and grind. This label is active more than 3 decades and releasing damn good stuff. Today we picked up a split 7-inch with two cool fastcore bands from Germany. Jigsore Puzzle – a sonic terrorist that will bring real chaos to your life. Xspig – the band that will make your blood boil! So let’s go!
Jigsore Puzzle’s side of the vinyl reads like a rough crime scene. Screaming vocals slice through the lo-fi chaos like a rusty razor, while guitars and drums careen wildly, often seeming moments from total collapse. Most tracks clock in under 30 seconds, a blitzkrieg so brief you’re left wondering what exactly just happened. Their final track, “Strong,” concludes with an ear-piercing guitar riffs that sounds like feedback being tortured. They’re barely hanging onto musical coherence, and that’s precisely their twisted charm.
XSPIG’s contribution arrives with markedly more surgical precision and heaviness. “Gold” kicks off with a driving crust bass sound and blast beats that somehow manage to incorporate melodic undertones. All session has a wonderful pumping energy and good punchy sound. Their seven tracks represent grindviolence at its most potent: riotous yet weirdly catchy, with a production aesthetic that feels like you’re standing inches from their amplifiers during a basement show.
It’s worth noting that these still taste fresh and bitter. Both bands are representing the good side of Bremen’s music’s raw power.
