Cold Showers - s/t 7"

It’s about bloody time. I’ve seen Cold Showers play numerous times in Plymouth and always wondered when there would be an actual release of their music, so it comes as no surprise for them to find a home on Crew Cuts for its debut. There’s a heavy Dischord influence to these five tracks, as intricate, sharp guitar work is underpinned by a dynamic rhythm section driving, whilst shouted, but intelligible, lyrics top things off, all recalling Rites of Spring. The vocals do have similarities to those of Guy Picciotto, more in the inflection and delivery, and they work extremely well on record as they do live. Now I can learn these songs and singalong next time I see Cold Showers play. A final mention must be made of the vibrant covert art, featuring the band’s cat logo under, you guessed it, a shower. One of the best singles I’ve heard this year. - Rich Cocksedge
