N.F.U.E. (Nunca Fui Un Esclavo / I Was Never a Slave) project was born as a tool of political resistance, collective expression, and territorial affirmation through music.
Its first EP, Rural Skins Oi, distills the tensions that shape contemporary life from rural margins: class struggle, the crisis of rural communities, the depoliticization of leisure, the cultural hegemony of urban spaces, the burden of individualism, and the systematic invisibilization of peripheral territories.
Urgently and independently recorded, with the collaboration of our comrade Jake (UK) on drums, the EP features four songs in three languages—Spanish, Italian, and English—reflecting an internationalist commitment that rejects the nationalist-identity logic of capital and affirms the possibility of weaving networks of resistance beyond imposed borders.
From the choice of languages to the sound that blends elements of punk, Oi!, and electronic music, Rural Skins Oi constructs a sonic body that addresses the present from a subaltern position. Our proposal doesn’t seek merely to entertain, but to interrupt the logic of music as anesthetic commodity, as passive consumption or mere spectacle.
We believe that music, before being domesticated by the culture industry, was—and can again become—a means of building community and political confrontation. Against the neoliberal logic that promotes individualism, hyper-productivity, and the trivialization of desire, we defend a radical use of music.
For us, rurality is a living territory of resistance, where it’s still possible to sustain ways of life that escape the neoliberal urban logic—one built heavily on real estate speculation, consumer alienation, and the exploitation of resources and people. At a time when cities are presented as the only legitimate centers of cultural production, Rural Skins Oi asserts the right to culture from the margins—be they geographic peripheries or social ones.
The "rural," in the context of this EP, must be understood in opposition to the forces that strip our territories of meaning, draining them of services and people while turning them into extraction zones (whether for tourism, agriculture, or energy). It is about embracing a tradition of working-class pride, popular resistance, and collective identity. It’s about making noise, speaking up, challenging the silence imposed on the working class and the socially and culturally exploited peripheries.
In this EP, a guitar, a bass, a synthesizer, and a borrowed drum kit come together to say the following: music is not neutral, territory is not neutral, the body is not neutral.
We sing from and for the periphery, for those who believe that another world is not only possible, but necessary.
Because we were never slaves; colonialism, capitalism, imperialism, neoliberalism, and technocracy are what make us into them.
